How to Unlock Your iPhone

How to unlock your iPhone to use it on a different carrierLike any service, not all IMEI unlock providers are created equal. Some have cheap prices, but can’t deliver the unlocks in the time frame they’ve quoted. Some have a unlocks for a huge number of providers but no customer support. And, worst of all, some are just plain scams.

Thirdly, they’re fast. The majority of their massive range of unlocks are completed in 24 – 72 hours, with only some of the rarer unlocks taking longer than that.

Vodafone also requires you to have an account with the company or know the details of the person who had the account before. If you do know those details, you'll need to fill out Vodafone's online form. The company says it'll get back to you within 48 hours, but it could take up to 10 days if there's an issue that requires getting in touch with the phone's manufacturer.

And finally, their customer support rocks. When my mum unlocked her iPhone 5c, she managed to put the wrong email address in… (She’s not too tech savvy). To make sure we didn’t miss any notifications, I called them (Yes, they have phone support) immediately to fix it all up and it was all done in less than 3 minutes.

To unlock your EE iPhone, you'll need to have had your account for at least six months, and you'll need to have paid all of your bills to date. EE says it'll take up to 20 days to unlock your iPhone, and it'll cost you £8.99.

Summary: Of three available unlock methods for iPhone 5, 5s, and 5c, the only reliable and effective one is IMEI Unlocking (sometimes called factory unlocking). Software unlocking hasn’t worked since the iPhone 3 was released, and hardware locking is a dangerous scam that could destroy your iPhone while also voiding your warranty.

That representative also said that, if you're not an O2 customer, you can simply put a non-O2 SIM card into your iPhone and then plug it into your computer and open iTunes to unlock the iPhone. We've yet to be able to test this, but we'll update this article as soon as we can confirm. If it does work, it's possible that this will work on your iPhone even if you are an O2 customer, so it could be worth a try before filling in O2's form.

If you're not sure whether your iPhone is locked or not, follow the instructions in our Is my iPhone locked? article. The issue usually occurs if you've purchased your iPhone second-hand or inherited one from a friend or family member who has updated to a newer model. If it's locked, you'll find that the iPhone isn't working on your mobile network, and that's because it's tied to a different network.

The only safe way to unlock your iPhone 6, 6s, 6 Plus, and 6s Plus is with an IMEI unlock. An IMEI Unlock will get your phone added to Apple’s global database of iPhones that is available to use on any carrier. This means you can change to any carrier, whenever you want, without paying any extra fees.

If you look up the process of unlocking iPhone models, it involves wiping, then hooking up to a computer with iTunes, and if you get the confirmation message saying you hooked up an unlocked phone then they did their part correctly. I feel like this process could be greatly improved.

You don't have to go through your carrier to unlock your iPhone, though we think it's better if you can. If that's not possible, you can use an unlocking service, but please watch out as we've heard from some readers who've been slapped with extra charges throughout the process. If you really want to use an online service, please read all of the small print before you enter your payment details. For example, OfficialiPhoneUnlock.co.uk suggests that it will charge you £19.99, but it actually springs an extra £80 bill on its customers when the come to complete the process. There are plenty of others out there to try and many will refund you if it doesn't work. This includes Doctor SIM which was able to unlock a Galaxy S6 which other sites failed to unlock.

If you never synchronized your iPhone with iTunes on a computer or backed up using iCloud, the only option is to restore the iPhone as new, which will delete all of your personal information. A passcode that can be bypassed by anyone would not be of much use, so this is as intended for security purposes.

Official iPhone Unlock are the #2 rated unlock provider we found. Just like iPhoneIMEI, they were able to unlock all three iPhone unlocks we sent, but they’re behind enough to make a difference in who you should use.

With this setting enabled, you can simply rest your finger on the Home button to unlock your iPhone instead of needing to press it. The screen, however, must be on -- either by pressing the power button or, more likely, iOS 10's new raise-to-wake feature that turns on the screen when you pick up your iPhone.

donawalt Right, which I am an AT&T customer. So how do I unlock a phone that no longer has a phone number associated with it? 0 4 months ago Reply achicagoguy Just use your phone number to which this phone was associated with. I have done it since 2010 and worked like a charm each time 0 4 months ago Reply donawalt Thanks for the reply! It won't unlock my newest/replacement phone will it, or does it ask for IMEI number later in the process? 0 4 months ago Reply stephen007 It sounds like you're in an 'edge case' scenario. Calling customer service is probably your best bet. 0 4 months ago Reply.
